Studio Masterclass with Alexi Kenney
On Thursday, May 18, 2023, we had the distinct privilege of welcoming violinist Alexi Kenney to our studio for a masterclass. This free and public event hosted at the beautiful Rafters at Historic St. Mark’s was an incredible opportunity for students and interested community members to learn a truly world-class violinist. Hailing from California, Kenney’s talent and dedication to the violin have led him to numerous accolades and international recognition. He’s a recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, and his performances with major orchestras and at renowned venues around the world have been celebrated for their virtuosity and emotional depth. We were honored to have him work with our students while he was in the area performing with the Charlotte Symphony.

It was the first time participating in a masterclass for each of the students performing, but Alexi’s careful, supportive, and constructive teaching style set each student at ease. He provided incredible insight and feedback for each performance, emphasizing a variety of technical and interpretive aspects of using the bow that made an immediately noticeable difference.
As the masterclass came to an end, it was clear that our students and audience had gained more than just technical insights. They had met, worked with, and learned from a truly exceptional artist and master in the field. Kenney’s humility, passion, and wisdom left a lasting impression on everyone in the room.
As an added bonus, a small group from our studio was able to attend Mr. Kenney’s performance of the Stravinsky Violin Concerto with the Charlotte Symphony!
